Gratitude 5.0
This has been a fast year. It was January and now it’s December. In the blink of an eye my firstborn granddaughter was a toddler then a high school and college graduate and now is a young woman making her way in the world.
My consulting business has grown, shrunk, and grown again in the five years since I started it. I now have a team of consultants who work with me and my clients. This year I launched my podcast, About Fundraising: The Podcast, with Lucas, sound engineer and producer, and Katey guest wrangler. After many years of procrastination, I launched a website, Telos Atelier, to showcase my artwork. Yes, I’m cross promoting, but just this once.
I don’t use this word often, but I am blessed with good health, a loving spouse, grown children who are responsible adults, and perfectly wonderful grandkids.
Having a positive outlook on life takes work for me. I remind myself to be grateful for the life I live, and I strive to be gracious in my interactions with other people. It’s so easy to fall into the negative, rude, and entitled mindset, but I feel better, physically and mentally, when I let go of the small stuff.
As a consultant my job is to guide and help people with their fundraising, board training, and overall planning. I’m good at what I do and feel good about sharing my knowledge and experience. Those of us who work in the nonprofit sector have the unique privilege of providing opportunities to our donors and volunteers to be humanitarians, right here, in our own neighborhoods, and I am proud of that.
When we are hyper-focused on reaching our end-of-year monetary goal, I believe we tend to lose sight of The Why. Why our work is important. Who we are ultimately serving. And How we benefit our community. You make all this happen and I am grateful for you.
I am grateful to my clients Deaf Action Center, Mi Escuelita Preschool, and Herzog’s Heroes and look forward to working with them again in 2025. I also had the opportunity this year to work with other consultants on their projects. It was fun and challenging. My New Year’s Resolution is to be the best person I can be, continue to learn, practice patience (especially with myself), and enjoy my family, friends, the arts, good food and wine.
Wishing everyone the happiest of holidays and a fabulous New Year!
